Questions and Suggestions for the National Committee

This series of pages has been posted after a unanimous vote at a recent meeting of our group. Our group believed that, by this means, we should seek the views of other members and groups about the issues that we raise here.

Some of us have been worried about the lack of communication from the National Committee and the state of the finances of the Cottage Garden Society and decided to seek more information about rising expenditure and falling income.

At the AGM in 2011 our group and South Herefordshire group put several questions about the accounts and membership numbers to The Chair.   These questions had been submitted several weeks earlier.  Given the opportunity Caroline had to prepare a response we were very disappointed with the incomplete answers.   We were particularly upset with the response about falling membership which was that "people die".

Caroline's dismissive attitude at the AGM persuades us that it will take a groundswell of opinion to encourage her committee to listen and to engage with members.

In the following pages we comment about the issues that concern us.   We hope that the National Committee will read these.  We plan to pursue these matters with them.  It is not our object to oust anyone from office, but we do want the committee to perform their duties in a spirit of openness and accountability.

Communications
Keep members informed and encourage transparency in their dialogue with members. After all it is OUR SOCIETY.

Finances
The recent legacy is being used to cushion increasing costs.
Administration
Current practices appear outdated and uneconomical.

The Cottage Garden Society will soon be thirty years old - our motive is to ensure that it it is restored to health and has the opportunity to survive another thirty years.
